Restaurant Review, Cornerstone Grille

I am a breakfast person. I could eat breakfast for every meal all day and be a very happy camper. So brunch on Saturdays or Sundays is my most favorite- that and not having to do dishes after the meal!
This weekend, we had the pleasure of trying a local favorite. Many know of Cornerstone Grille in Buckner, next to Thornton’s, but I have not had the opportunity to visit for brunch- until now.
When we arrived, the parking lot was full and there was a crowd of people gathered out-side. When it comes to restaurants, my husband and I look for small buildings with full parking lots and a crowd of people. That is how you know the best local stops.
We walked in and were greeted and immediately seated. We brought our daughter so we asked if we could order ahead for her. Within 5 minutes we had her food and she was happily entertaining herself with scrambled eggs and toast. While she was preoccupied, we were given a chance to look over the menu. Meals range from $3.99 to $8.49 and the menu boasted their Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s… YUM.
After we were settled with our coffee, we finally narrowed our selection to the Pancake breakfast and the Haystack. The Pancake Breakfast consisted of 3 light and fluffy buttermilk pancakes served with 2 eggs your way, choice of meat and warm maple syrup. Topped with whipped butter. You have not lived until you have tried Cornerstone Grille’s buttermilk pancakes. To say that they were incredible, almost seems like it is not enough. They were perfection. Given the opportunity, I would eat these pancakes every morning for the rest of my life.
The Haystack is a pile of hash-browns with onions, green peppers and sausage. Served nice and crisp, with 3 eggs folded in. This meal is not for the light of heart or the small of stomach. Huge portions, but served just the way grandma used to make them. If you are looking for southern comfort, look no further than the Haystack breakfast.
The only thing we were disappointed in, was the Bloody Mary. Our server explained that they make the mix for the Bloody Mary’s in house, the night before, and for some reason, they were unable to prepare the mix the night before we came. I would like to come back and try their Bloody Mary mix they make in house. The one we were served was thrown together. And not in a good way.
Cornerstone Grill has excellent wait-staff. From the gentleman who greeted us at the door, to our server Field, to the others who “just wanted to check that everything was alright,” everyone was kind and accommodating. Our food was served very quickly, any requests were addressed promptly, and when I go back, I will ask for Field, our server.
Our first experience with Cornerstone Grill Brunch was one that we hope to repeat in the near future. This casual, family-friendly, local restaurant has my attention. I cannot wait to come back and try more of their menu.
