Hattie Cochran Dick was the “model” for the Little Colonel series of books by Anne Fellows Johnston. Mrs. Johnston based all of the characters from these popular series of children’s books (late 19th – early 20th century) on people who actually lived in Pewee Valley. There were books, games, dolls, and even children’s clothing that was branded and sold under the Little Colonel name.
