Griffith — born on Jan. 22, 1875, near Curry’s Fork in Oldham County to Mary Oglesby Griffith and Jacob Griffith — has been called the “Father of Modern Film,” producing 400 movies during his career and creating such techniques as the fade out, flashback, diffused lighting, moving cameras and high-angle photography.
